Wearing: Mixed messages

The shirt, a camo dream come true from the closet of this guy I live with.

The skirt, a Michael Kors dream come true purchased second hand for 11 dollars.

Together, glorious partners. I love the silhouette of this hyper-feminine skirt, with a watercolor pattern to die for, and the informality of this t-shirt with sleeves rolled up like I'm a T-bird or something. Army green rocks my world lately. Plus, the skirt has pockets and I know people freak out for pockets.

T-Shirt: Boyfriend's (try this or this)
Skirt: Michael Kors (thrifted, similar in indigo)
Shoes: Dolce Vita (love these)
Purse: Thrifted

Wearing: Baseball tee

Not just any old baseball tee, a fancy baseball tee. Found at H&M for a ripe price of 7 dollars. Sometimes their sales are just unfair.

I immediately fell in love with the cut of it, the color of it, the material, the interesting seam on the shoulders that may be hard to see from these photos. As you know, I'm always into the dichotomy of a polished top and destroyed jeans (for example, this post), so I wore it with my ripped jeans and sleek heels. Hey, batter batter.

Wearing: TGIF

Ever practically sleep in something and then wear it the whole next day? Yeah, me neither.

This outfit, however, was so comfortable I wore it the majority of last weekend. To breakfast, to the movies, to lunch, to my nap, to dinner. To my couch. The shlubby and polarizing shorts were first seen here.

The purse is the real star of this post. I found it for ten bones at my local thrift shop. A cross weave and tassels? Hummina hummina hummina.

Sweater: Forever 21
Shorts: Vintage Levis (try these)
Sandals: Colin Stuart with Victoria's Secret (these for fall)
Purse: Thrifted
Sunglasses: Karen Walker (sold out, similar)

Wearing: Birthday dress

In honor of my boyfriend's birthday, and his favorite color, I wore this drop waist dress to dinner and drinks a couple weekends ago. We had a grand old time dining and drinking and drinking some more. The sheer long sleeves were the perfect amount of fabric for an evening outside.

The seams are lovely and well executed so I couldn't pass up the damn thing. Plus, the versatility will surely bring me lots of winter joy (ew, winter). Think tights, boots, jackets. Long story longer, the $22.90 I spent on it will go far.

Navy dress: Forever 21
Clutch: Zara (old, similar)
Shoes: Dolce Vita (great flat option here)

Wearing: Lav

Because who doesn't like a good abbrev.

I've never really dabbled with lavender, purple hasn't attracted me (yet), but the ever so subtle shade and the sweet little details of this blouse were irresistible. Buttons on the back?  Excellent.

I suppose I should bring up the aviators on my face. The story behind them is weird so I'll caveat that I am not a smoker. I kid you not, they were a freebie from Marlboro mailed straight to my door. Like Moses in a basket. I have nothing to do with Marlboro but sometimes I get random promotional fliers and such, the glasses being the "and such", the Moses if you will. Kind of like those Teen Vogue cosmetic bags you get when you renew your subscription. But sunglasses. From a tobacco company.

Top: Zara (clearance, love this one)
Skirt: Urban Outfitters (similar)
Booties: Bakers
Bag: Francesca's (old, love this one)

Wearing: Green vest

Green vest on a black canvas. Coke bottle glasses. This past weekend was a fun one. It was my boyfriend's birthday so we celebrated with a nice dinner, a party with friends, too many glasses of wine. Normal weekend to some, lots of activity to me so Monday (a surprisingly chilly Monday) had to be a pretty effortless effort. The vest is from a thrift store, but there are so many great options out there.

Vest: Thrift (similar here and here)
Sweater: Forever 21
Black jeans: Cheap Monday

Shoes on feet, animals on shoes

No need to get a pet these days. Skip the middle man and just put a cat's face on your loafer. A mouse on your ballet flat.

The trend: yay or nay? Meow or ow?

Wearing: Cream pleats

This skirt really hasn't had its time to shine this summer (first seen in this oreo outfit) so I wore it to a brunch last weekend to celebrate my friend's new adventure to D.C. Kept it pretty basic with a flowy white tank and my giant black clutch. A simple Sunday.

Cream pleated skirt: Forever 21 (similar)
Sandals: Colin Stuart with Victoria's Secret (sold out, love these)
Clutch: Zara (similar)

Wearing: Leather pencil

I love a good leather pencil, remember my guest post on Bows & Sequins?

This one, a perfect shade of band-aid, is a recent find at my trusted stomping grounds - Forever 21. There's no way I can wear it until the weather cools down a bit (ahh, fake leather) but thought I'd share what will surely be a fall go-to.

Top: Urban Outfitters (old)
Skirt: Forever 21
Shoes: Dolce Vita (similar)
Watch: Marc by Marc Jacobs

Wearing: Bobbi Brown

Last night I went to a cool Bobbi Brown event at the Bloomingdales counter at 900 N. Michigan, hosted by Yanira of Manolos, Manicures & This Mom and Rita of Chitown Fashionista. I took my partner in crime Flavia to preview the new fall collection, "Sunset". Inspired by, well, a sunset, the collection was full of warm hues and subtle sparkles. I got totally motivated to amp up my beauty repertoire since I'm usually a three stop shop in the morning - blush, eyeliner, mascara.

Yanira did an amazing job with my makeup, I forgot what I looked like with eye shadow on! After making the skincare expert gasp when I told him I have no makeup or skin care routine (none, people, none), I made a quick exit to meet up with my girlfriend in town from D.C. The meet up of drinks turned into a party bus (don't ask).

Gorgeous photo credit to Flavia.

Wearing: Shorts to work

I work in a place where suits are scarce, but that doesn't mean appropriate office wear is completely off the table. So while weekday shorts are a piece I hesitate to wear, I figure these are acceptable. Suit shorts. Made of suit fabric.

The real story is about this striped top. During an exciting shopping trip with my mom, the queen of a good bargain, we spotted this beautifully boat necked tee shirt with an unrivaled stripe. You know, the perfect tone of creamy white and black, the stripes at the ideal width, the sleeves that leave room for a brilliant arm party. The shirt your wardrobe just can't live without. The last one in my size was in the hands of not me, but another girl. A girl who had no idea how weird her afternoon was going to get.

Being the dedicated fashion slaves that we are, even for a ten dollar top, casually following her until she set the stripey dream down (or, gasp, bought it) quickly turned into something else. Stalking her dressing room. Following her to the cash register. Awkwardly complimenting her style. Heavily convincing her to give it to me. I won't take the credit, my mom was doing most of the embarrassing grunt work. I was lurking in the corner pretending to rifle through clothes. Sunglasses on.

In the end, this girl was an absolute angel and she graciously handed it over. Talk about shopping karma.
